Heavy Cream vs. Milk

One of the items that I added into my life this past year was Cafe Latte’s from Starbucks. There was a point about 6 months ago when I was drinking a Cafe Latte each day. I started to gain weight. I was trying to figure out what I was doing differently and I realized it was drinking Cafe Latte’s.

I was ordering my Cafe Latte’s “Breve” to cut back on carbohydrates. When you order something “Breve” at Starbuck’s it means with heavy cream. You see I knew that milk had more carbohydrates than heavy cream but I also knew that heavy cream had more calories than milk. What I didn’t realize was just how many additional calories.

1 cup of heavy cream contains 6.6 grams of carbohydrates and 821 calories! Yes, I said it, 821 calories!! In 1 cup of milk there are 12.8 grams of carbohydrates and 146 calories. The reason I was gaining weight was because I had added an entire meal to my day while only saving myself from 6.2 grams of carbohydrates.

My point to this blog is that calories are just as important as carbohydrates when it comes to weight loss. You need to find the balance between savings a few carbohydrates here and there and adding an entire meal to your day.

The best advice I can give you is to look up items that you are not sure about online and double check their carbohydrate and calorie content. One of the most important things you can do for yourself when living the low carb lifestyle is to be educated about what you are putting in your body and this will help you achieve the changes or goals that you have set for yourself.
